Gallery Neptune is pleased to present the meticulous work of Virginia artist Joseph Barbaccia. The artist continues to explore abstracted imagery using carved polystyrene enveloped in sequins which he began to produce in 2003. The current work includes wall mounted as well as free standing sculptures. In 2008, Barbaccia was a Trawick Prize finalist and had solo shows of his work in The Greater Reston Art Center in Virginia and The Delaware Center for Contemporary Art. Earlier this year, his work was exhibited at The Delaplaine Center of Art in Frederick, Md. The artist shares this about his sequined work:

"My work is the product of vision. What you see is essentially what you get. There are no hidden agendas or secret meanings. The process of creating extends past the initial vision and manifests like waves spreading out from a stone dropped in water consisting of everything and everyone else; including the artist's involvement. The work is on its own; its meaning and value buffeted and energized by its environment. Eventually there may be some concept or ideas that are associated with the title, shape, color or texture; or the materials I use and how they relate to the current state of affairs or my childhood. But these are all addendums to the primary vision. Which is. . . well, primary."
